ARUNACHAL PRADESH

Arunachal Pradesh Come to the land of unspoiled hills! Arunachal Pradesh is sure to leave tourists spellbound with its majestic beauty spread lavishly on the green hills. PLACE OF INTEREST:

ITANAGAR:
The capital city of Arunachal is a modern settlement built in the vicinity of the ruin of the 14th century fort old capital. The capital is well connected by a network of roads with all important cities and towns of the neighbouring states. Some of the places of interest are the state museum known as Jawaharlal Nehru Museum; time spent here can really acquaint you with the culture and tradition of this region. All prototype of the bamboo and cane architecture of dwelling of different tribes and apparel, design and functional tools and others handicrafts are display here. Itafort, is a historical fort built mainly with bricks. Ganga lake locally known as Gekkar Sinyi consists of many interesting plant species.

TAWANG-BOMDILA:
The land of the Monpa tribes, nestled in the lap of the Himalayas at 12000 ft. above sea level is the Tawang Monastery. The Tawang Monastery is around 400 years old and the second largest Monastery in Asia. The most imposing part of the monastery is the three storied assembly hall which houses the temple and the 28ft. high Golden Buddha. The building is about 113 ft. long and 80 ft. wide and houses valuable antiquities. Its library has an impressive collection of old books and manuscripts.

BOMDILA:
The headquarters of West Kameng district is located at the height of 8500 ft. above sea level from where one can see the brilliant landscape and snow-clad mountains of the Himalayan Ranges. It has a lot of attractions for the tourist with its cool climate, snow-capped peaks and Buddhist Gompas. The Buddhist monastery of Bomdila is the repository of culture. This place has a craft centre displaying local crafts museum and a shopping centre. Bomdila also offers a Bird’s eye view of Kangto and Gorichan peak (the highest peak in the state).

BHALUKPONG-TIPI:
The gate way and entry check gate for the East Kameng, West Kameng and Tawang District of Arunachal Pradesh is a scenic beauty surrounded by evergreen forest, located on the bank of river Kameng provides excellent opportunity for white water rafting, angling & bird watching. If you happen to be angler, it is the best spot to catch Masher with guaranteed success. An angler can also float downstream on inflated rubber boat and fish all the confluence along the way, besides Masher the other game fish of the Bhorali river are the Boka (Katli) the Sal (Murral) and the sporting little (Korang) local trout and the dreaded Goru.
An Orchadirum at Tipi 5km from Bhalukpong is the Botanical paradise of the state. Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh, Department of Environment and forest has established Orchid Research Centre at Tipi to promote orchid conservation. Out of 1150 species distribute in various state in India, Arunachal Pradesh alone accounts for 601 species-almost 52% of the total species known in India, thus making Arunachal Pradesh an Orchid paradise of our country.

DIRANG-SANGTI VALLEY:
Dirang a unique hill station is at an altitude of 5000 ft. the area comprises of Tribal Mahayana Buddhist. Monapas sharing their traditions and heritage are similar to western Bhutan. Dirang features unique flora & fauna, numerous medicinal plants have their habitat in this area. Tourist can walk around typical Monpa villages at Dirang and from Dirang you can visit Dirang Dzong, locally known as ‘JONG’ the fort at Dirang is an important historical monument for the Monpas of Dirang circle, oldest village structure built around 500 years ago represent the authority of the King/Chief and also an important center of public administration. It was also the centre of military and judicial activities concerning the entire population within its jurisdiction. Sangti Valley, winter home for the famous black neck crane and also an ideal picnic spot.

ZEMITHANG:
The largest Chorten (Stupa) of the area is the one at Gorsam near Zemithang, which is 88 km away in the north of Tawang. Lama Pradhar, a Monpa monk, constructed it most probably in the early part of 19th century. The hemispherical dome rests upon a three-terraced plinth. Four miniatures stupas are set on the four corners of the lower most terrace of the plinth. The base is square with each side about 170 ft. in length with a niche running all long its whole length and 120 mains are set in frames of wood in the niche of each of the base. A paved path goes all around for the pilgrims for circumambulation.

ZIRO-DAPORIJO:
The land of Apatani tribe is in an altitude of 5754ft. high town is almost a level valley enclosed on all sides by pine-clad low stooping hills. This areas, is also called Apatani Plateau, The uniqueness of Apatani tribe is tooting on women face and its nose plug and famous for Paddy-cum fish culture. DAPORIJO, is land of Nishi and the Hill Miri tribes.

PASIGHAT-ALONG-TUTING:
The Land of Adi group of tribals, the destinations is Ideal for Rafting, kayaking and Angling on rivers like Siang and Siyom, (name of river Brahmaputra in Arunachal Pradesh). The areas are also famous for trekking, hiking to the tribal villages and hanging bridges made of cane & bamboo.

ANINI-ROING-TEZU:
The land of Mishimi tribes (Idu, Digaru and Miju) situated in the lower reaches of river Dibang and Lohit. Tezu is a religious place visited by people from all over the country during the Makar Sankranti day for a holy dip. Common belief that a dip on the day in the Kund washes away one’s sins. Roing and Anini is an ideal for Trekking, Hikking and Kayaking.

MIAO-NAMDAPHA NATIONAL PARK:
Miao is situated on the Indo-Burma border and few kilometers away in the Namdapha National Park, the park was declared a tiger Reserve in March, 1983. “Namdapha” is in fact the name of a river which originating at Daphabum, meets the Noa-Dihing River and flows right across the forests, giving its name to the park. Perhaps no national Park in the world has a wider altitudinal variation than the Namdapha National Park, which rises from 200m nearly at sea level to 4500m where snow covered mountain peaks sentinel in their frozen glory of ruggedness over the vast forest expanse. The river Noa-Dihing meanders through the park, fed by numerous tributaries mainly the Deban, Namdapha, M’Pen and the Korvaiwa. The riverine system forms the catchments of the Brahmaputra through the Noa-Dihing. Because of its sheer remoteness and inaccessibility the entire area is pristine and virgin.

NAMPONG-PANGSAU PASS:
3727 ft. in altitude, lies on the crest of the Patkai Hills on the Indio-Burma (Myanmar) border. The reputed route of the 13th century invasion of Assam in India by the Ahoms, a Shan tribe, the pass offers one of the easiest routes into Burma from the Assam plains. Prospected by the British in the late 19th Century as a possible railway route from India toMyitkyina in north Burma through the Hukawng Valley, the pass became famous during World War II for being the initial obstacle encountered by American General ‘Vinegar Joe’ Stillwell’s forces in their effort to build a land route to isolated China after the fall of Burama to the Japanese. The Ledo Road began at Ledo, the railhead, and passed through Lekhapani, Jagun, Jairampur and Nampong before switchbacking steeply upwards through densely forested hills to the pass, 12km away. The distance from Ledo to Pangsau Pass is 61 km (38 miles). Because of the fierce gradients and the mud which made getting up to the pass difficult, it was nicknamed "Hell Pass" during the war. The first Burmese village, Pangsau, lies 2 km beyond the pass to the east.

KHONSA-LAZU-WAKKA-LONGDING:
Land of worrier tribes, the Nocte and the Wancho tribes. It is ideal for those who are interested in the tribal life. But this destinations is not fully open for the tourist, it takes some advance planning to visit this areas.

ENTRY FORMALITIES:
Permit is required for traveling to Arunachal Pradesh. Indian tourists intending to visit Arunachal Pradesh require an Inner Line Permit (ILP) valid for 7 days and Foreign Tourists require Protected Area Permit (PAP) valid for a maximum stay of 30 days.

    The Nishi were earlier known as Dafla or Bangni. They are basically individualistic in outlook. The only basis of cohesion among them is their feeling of oneness in respect of clan and Kin group. The sharing of similar pattern of life lends to the Nishi’s sense of unity. Wrongs are considered to be personal rather than social matters, and disputing parties are often left to themselves without interference from society. Nishi men wears wickerwork helmet, surmounted by the red-dyed beak of the Hornbill.

    The Nishi form bulk of the population of the Subansiri District. Their economy is based on agriculture and animal husbandry,
    and the principal method of tillage is slash and burn cultivation.

  • Full day to explore villages of the Apatani tribe The Apatanis belong to the Tibeto-Mongoloid stock and are well-built, fair in complexion and medium to tall in structure. The Apatani society is patriarchal. They are agriculturists and practice permanent cultivation. Most of the Apatanis are loyal followers of the Donyi Polo faith, who pray to an array of spirits and souls for blessing. Abo-Teni, the primal man, analogous to Adam in the Christian faith, is considered to be the sole ancestor of all Apatani and other Animist tribes in the surrounding regions.

    The uniqueness of the Apatani tribe is tatooing on the women's face and their nose plug. Apatani, like other tribes also believe
    in sun and the moon as god and have traditional altar in there home made up of Bamboo and Cane.

    View of Dirang Village The Monpa are an ethnic group in the districts of Tawang and West Kameng in Arunachal Pradesh. The tribe is also found in the Cuona district of Tibet, where they are known as Menba. A small number of them may be found in Bhutan. The word "Monpa" means "People of the Mon-yul, which means land in Tibetan. Their language is of Tibeto-Burman origin and script is Tibetan. The Monpa are mainly followers of Tibetan Buddhism of the Gelugpa sect. Tawang is famous for its 400 year old Buddhist monastery. The monastery was founded by a monk, Mera Lama, a contemporary of the fifth Dalai Lama. Before the establishment of the Monastery, Tawang was a centre of Tantric religion. The Tawang Monastery is also known as the ‘Galden Namgyal Lhatse’. Beyond Tawang lies the forbidden land of Tibet to the north, connected by the Bum La and Tulung La passes.
